For last months update, please go here.
October wasn’t the greatest month in terms of reading. I read 2 books.
They were:
- The Perennial Philosophy - Aldous Huxley
There was a passage from this book that I came across and tweeted about in September.
Huxley is a fantastic writer, but, this book didn’t live up to my expectations, which doesn’t necessarily mean that the book isn’t worth reading, I think it is, but, I was surprised to find strong references to the PK effect (among other things) in the book. I hold Huxley in high regard and this book fell short.
The book itself is a compilation of some esoteric western theological works and more mainstream eastern works and attempts to form a consistent view of what the perrenial or common theme to all these theologies are. I think Huxley succeeds in parts.

- The Autobiography of Malcolm X - as narrated to Alex Haley
I read a book earlier this year called Dream Teams (review can be found in this update) and the book gave a brief overview Malcolm X’s life story.
The overview caught me off-guard, I have to admit, I did not have a great opinion of Malcolm X, so, I decided to pick up his autobiography.
I’m still on the fence about him, but, I can now appreciate how much of an impact he has had on the culture of African Americans, this doesn’t directly affect me in any way, I don’t live in the US, but, from what can be seen in pop culture especially over the past 5 years, the effect Malcolm X has had through his writings and speeches are obvious and without equal.
Recommended for those curious about the man himself.
