One of the books that I read earlier this year was ‘The Heartfulness Way”
It’s an interesting book and offers suggestions on how and why to meditate without dictating it to you.
I used to meditate when I was younger, but, I lost touch along the way. I’ve been trying to meditate for a while now but, hadn’t been able to until a month ago.
I decided to give it a shot and took a session at a heartfulness centre.
It was, to tell you the truth, not the greatest first experience, I went through the cycles that I usually go through when I try to meditate and did not achieve what I had set out to achieve.
I had a conversation with the person who conducted the session for me and she asked me to come back the next day for a follow up session where I was to unlearn everything I knew and come as a clean slate and try it their way.
I had a much better experience, I think its a simplified form of meditation but, it helps. It was similar to experiences I had with meditating from when I was much younger and following a different system.
The reason why I meditate might not be reason why anyone else should meditate. I think we have highly subjective goals when it comes to the activities we do.
What has changed for me?
I think, on some level, I’ve been experimenting, with varying degrees of success, with techniques to have a clearer mind. That’s why I did my no smartphone experiment and no social media experiment.
These things did help, but, meditating has taken it to a whole new level for me. I am not expert at it, but, I have had great experiences and feelings of clarity in the mind (and the heart) over the past month and half.
Regardless of how you go about it, I think its something you should try.
