For last months update, please go here.
I read 3 books in February. I’ve been quite busy with a product I’m working on.
On the plus side, I enjoyed both all books I read, real value for the time spent reading them.
- Educated - Tara Westover
It’s hard to give a sensible opinion on this, because the story is quite difficult in setting and the fact that a life like this is still lived by people is not easy to digest.
The main achievement of the author in the book is in bringing out the irrationality of hate and love in those who believe in something offbeat and believe it enough to impose it vehemently on the people around them for several years.
I think I liked the first 2/3rds of the book, somehow the last third seemed repetitive, but, what’s life if not repetitive.
Congrats to the author on getting herself to where she is now. Amazing story.

- The Road to Serfdom - Friedrich Hayek
Hayek is an author I haven’t spent enough time reading, so rather than starting with any of his purely academic works, I picked up a series of essays he had written at the peak of WW2 and Nazi Germany.
This series of essays is a damning critique of the narrative that had grown then about the nature of the totalitarian and authoritarian states around the world, it dismantles at the source the arguments for increased power to the state.
A fantastic, but, sometimes dry and sometimes over-detailed read.
Definitely recommend for those interested in economics.

- What is Life? : Erwin Schrodinger
Just, wow. One of the best books I have ever read.
I was in awe of the brilliant simplicity of the writing when it came to the incredibly difficult topics at the intersection of biology/anatomy and theoretical physics.
It’s obvious the depth at which this man thinks, a true philosopher of a time gone by.
Please read, even if you have no interest in anything related to science.

I’m also trying something a little different for this year, I’ve setup a pool of books to pick from for next year which I plan to keep updating, you can find the list here. If you have any book that you recommend I add to my list, do let me know.
Thank you for reading what I’m reading
